I worked for a number of weeks at Mayflower Primary School, with a class from every year group to create 3 distinct flag designs. Each design is displayed on rotation every term in the playground.

Session 1 / Flag Set 1 Y1 / Y3 / Y4
What’s Around Our School

Pupils explored the local architecture, with a short trip to visit the Lansbury Estate. They were given limited materials and colour palette to reproduce a number of locally iconic buildings and local shops and to produce a series of abstract map tiles using collage and printmaking.

Session 2 / Flag Set 2 Y2 / Y4
Our Dreams + Ambitions

Pupils produced some creative writing about their future dreams and ambitions and explored marbling and experimental markmaking to create a series of class portrait silhouttes.

Session 3 / Flag Set 4 Y5 / Y6
In Our Classroom

Inspired by the drawings of Patrick Caulfield and repeat patterns of William Morris, the class created observational drawings in pencil of objects around the classroom. They then got into 4 groups to create a repeat pattern.

Project comissioned by Bow Arts.
