Institute of Anything - Just My Type 2015
I project managed and delivered as one of the lead artists on the 2015 Summer School as part of the ongoing Cubitt Young Institute of Anything Programme. The programme seeks to involve young people aged 14-20 who have an interest in art, and helps support and inspire them so that they may consider pursuing arts education or other pathways leading them into creative careers.
This summer school was titled 'Just My Type'.
Just My Type is an exploration of typography in it’s broadest sense. From understanding and deconstructing letterforms, to producing typefaces and setting type to sculptural lettering and silkscreened collage – participants explored typography as a tool for expression, communication, and creative experimentation.
During the programme participants questioned:
What is the role of typography?
What makes a successful and interesting typographic composition?
How can traditional letterforms be experimented with?
What is the relationship between typography and art?
With my support as a trained Arts Award Advisor each of the 13 participants submitted a portfolio of work and successfully gained an accreditation in Arts Award Bronze.
