Kobi Nazrul School - Entrance Mural

This project was at Kobi Nazrul school in Bethnal Green. The school wanted some new signage for the entrance gates.

I worked with a 'design team' of nominated pupils to create artwork that I would later work into a composition for installation at the entrance.

We explored the idea of mark-making and crafted our own 'mark-making tools' using found materials such as sticks, feathers, corks and elastic bands. This allowed every pupil to be loose and experimental. They produced a number of colourful sheets of interesting marks from their experimental tools. We used these experiments as the basis for some collaged compositions, looking at buildings and icons from the local area and wider London landmarks. This includes Whitechapel Market, Whitechapel Gallery, Bethnal Green, Balfron Tower, Big Ben and the River Thames.
